Proverbs / Peribahasa (Part 2):::...

Maksud : Kata sepakat yang dicapai dalam mesyuarat.


2. Darah daging
Maksud : Anak dan saudara-mara daripada keturunan sendiri.


3. Berat sama dipikul, ringan sama dijinjing
Maksud : mengalami susah senang bersama-sama.

Maksud : Sombong

Maksud : Tidak jujur.

TEXT
a text is a string of semantical words that combines and make a meaningful sentences.
Micro( base) and Macro level (discourse).


LANGUAGE
language is a tool or medium of communication by global or written and also have been using by 2 or more person. it can't be exist by 1 person only.


TRANSLATOR vs INTERPRETER 
translator is one who translates or one who renders into another language. One who express the senses of words in one language by equivalent words in another.

interpreter is a person who makes an intelligible the speech of a foreigner by oral translation. One who enables two person of different language to understand each other by repeating.

Approaches of Translation....

In a method of translating a text described by a first language into a text described by a second language, words/idioms appearing in the first language text are managed as data sorted in accordance with a predetermined order, in such a manner that individual identification numbers are provided to the words/idioms in accordance with the predetermined order of sorting while the same identification number is provided to the same word/idiom. Then, the identification numbers as well as character strings of the second language corresponding to the words/idioms of the first language are used to generate the second language text in which the identification numbers for the words/idioms of the first language corresponding to the character strings of the second language are added ahead of the respective character strings of the second language. When it is desired to replace some of the character strings in the second language text in editing the second language text, the incorporation of the identification numbers into the second language text makes it possible to check the matching in the first language text by means of the identification numbers, thereby preventing unnecessary or undesired replacement which may be produced if the edition is made on the basis of only the matching of the character strings in the second language text.

Basically, there are EIGHT method of translation:

1. Literal translation 
this process is when the translator translating a source language into target language word-by-word without in need to follow any grammatical rules.


2. Borrowing 
The process of taking words from the source language into target language by retaining the absolute meaning and the way it's pronounced.

Example; 'record' (source language) into 'rekod' (target language).


3. Transference 
The word / phrase from source language is transferred into target language but still remain its structure without any changes.

Example; 'orang utan' (source language) into 'orang utan' (target language)


4. Oblique 
The combination of all the approaches for there are words that cannot be translated using all these approaches, hence, we use oblique.


5. Calque 
One language is transferred into another language by a literal translation of each of the individual elements.


6. Transposition 
when translate source language to target language by using nearest approaches to come across same meaning.


7. Modulation 
Translated by using the competence and understanding of the translator. But, the meaning of the word is still the same.


8. Adaptation 
The text is rewritten considering the sources language culture which is converted to target language culture. Take the word 'equivalence' which means 'perumpamaan'. Part of words commonly used in this method are 'bak', 'bagai', 'seperti', etc. So, we can say this method is most used in idioms and proverbs.

OMG!!! Ms. Hassan singing Ken Lee!!! *barff*


Ken Lee (correct pronunciation: "Can't live") is a garbled interpretation (phonetic interpretation) of Mariah Carey’s 1993 cover single and Badfinger’s classic love song “Without You” performed by Valentina Hasan (Bulgarian: Валентина Хасан), a contestant who auditioned for the Bulgarian TV show Music Idol in February 2008.

In an interview that took place in July 2008, Ms. Hasan explained to the Bulgarian media that she had no knowledge of English. She had just learned the song by heart and by ear, by listening to it repeatedly on a cassette recorder, and “sang it the way she felt it.” You can watch the clip up ahead.

KAPAL ANGKASA KITA YANG HEBAT

Berikut bukanlah satu persoalan andaian. Ianya kebenaran!

Mari
kita bayangkan sebuah kapal angkasa yang besar telah dicipta - saya akan beritahu anda dimana kapal angkasa yang serupa boleh dijumpai dalam seketika. Ia boleh menampung 500 penumpang ke mana sahaja di alam semesta pada kelajuan yang sangat tinggi.  Anda bertuah kerana terpilih sebagai salah seorang penumpang dalam kapal angkasa yang maju ini. Setiap penumpang boleh memilih untuk buat apa sahaja di kapal angkasa ini sementara ia menjelajah merentasi angkasa. Apa akan anda buat?

Adakah anda ingin menjadi orang yang menjaga dan mengendali kapal angkasa yang berkejuruteraan tinggi ini?  Atau anda jenis orang yang suka menjaga kesihatan para penumpang dan menjadi orang perubatan bergerak. 

Sesungguhnya ia suatu usaha yang baru! Boleh jadi anda ingin kapten kepada kapal ini dan menguruskan keseluruhan perjalanan, menjaga kapal angkasa ini dan para penumpangnya. Mungkin, sebahagian dari anda mahu memulakan perniagaan bergerak membuat untung di akhir perjalanan.

Jadi, adakah anda tahu apa akan saya buat?  Saya akan bercakap dengan kapten kapal dan beritahunya saya tidak mahu melakukan apa-apa kecuali duduk di tepian jendela melihat melalui teleskop dan teropong dan menikmati semua perkara yang pelik dan misteri yang berlalu ketika kita bergerak merentasi angkasa. Bagaimana dengan itu? Mahukah anda menyertai saya dan menghargai semua perkara baru yang mendatang?  Saya telah bertanya perkara yang sama baru-baru ini kepada 100 pelajar kelas Kuantum Fizik dan merasakan  tindak balas "ya" dari mereka yang mana pada kebiasaannya diam apabila saya bertanyakan soalan.

Sekarang mari kita bayangkan kapal angkasa tersebut adalah besar sedikit. Jauh lebih besar. Katakan kapal angkasa itu boleh membawa lebih banyak penumpang. Bukan 500 atau 5000 tetapi 5 bilion penumpang. Dan saya menanyakan pertanyaan yang sama. Apa yang anda lebih suka lakukan di atas kapal angkasa seperti yang dibayangkan? Adakah anda masih akan bersama dengan saya di tepi jendela dan kaji semua perkara hebat yang berlalu. Sebuah kapal angkasa yang boleh memenuhi sebanyak 5 bilion penumpang adalah sangat besar. Tapi bumi mempunyai 5 bilion penghuni dan ... ya kita sebenarnya berada di kapal angkasa yang dikenali sebagai bumi. Kapal angkasa kita ini dalam sistem suria bergerak melalui alam semesta yang meluas yang mana menurut Big Bang bergerak jauh dan menjauh dari jiran-jirannya - seperti dua titik pada permukaan belon yang mengembang.


Mungkin spesis awal Homo Habilis (manusia prasejarah), Homo Erektus (nenek moyang Homo Sapiens) dan semestinya Homo Sapiens (kita) selepas makan malam akan duduk di "tempat tinggal" mereka dan mendongak ke langit dan tertanya-tanya apa yang ada di luar sana dan kenapa mereka berada di kapal angkasa ini, Bumi.

Jadi, apakah tujuan saya?

Kami masih bertanyakan soalan yang sama setiap hari. Sebagai para penumpang kepada kapal angkasa yang hebat ini, anak-anak kita bertanyakan banyak soalan ketika umur muda mereka tetapi semakin kurang bertanya apabila mereka semakin membesar. Mereka kurang keinginan untuk mengejar dan memahami alam semulajadi, saya maksudkan sains asas - matematik, fizik dan astronomi, kimia, biologi dan lain-lain. Sudah tentu subjek-subjek lain adalah sama kepentingannya untuk kesejahteraan kapal angkasa kita.

Manusia kini mungkin terlibat dengan banyak "urusan kompleks" dan lupa untuk bertanyakan soalan-soalan asas mengenai alam semulajadi. Banyak teknologi kita masakini adalah hasil daripada generasi-generasi yang mencari pertanyaan dan juga menyediakan jawapan-jawapan mengenai alam semulajadi - perkara-perkara yang melalui jendela kapal angkasa kita yang hebat - dengan segera dapat difahami oleh orang-orang yang berfikiran hebat seperti Newton dan Einstein.  Sebagai umat manusia yang terbatas untuk memahami alam, sebagai contoh
nanoteknologi, nanobiologi, elektronik ditambah atom molekul, proton, quark-pesona, aneh, keindahan dan ke bawah, gluon, meson, lepton dan lain-lain, lebih ramai penumpang duduk di tepi jendela akan memastikan carta yang berterusan mengenai keindahan yang berlalu melalui kapal angkasa kita yang hebat, untuk ditemui.

Jadi kepada semua anak-anak dan yang telah dewasa di luar sana ... mari kita bergabung dengan genius-genius hebat dan pemikir pada masa lalu, sekarang dan juga masa depan dan duduklah ditepi jendela dalam menerokai perjalanan misteri dengan kapal angkasa kita yang hebat.

Homonym? Hyponym? what the ...

Homonym is a group of words that share the same spelling and the same pronunciation but have different meanings (in other words, are both homographes and homophones)

For Example:
  • stalk (part of a plant) and stalk (follow/harass a person)
  • left (opposite of right) and left (past tense of leave)
  • air (stuff we breath) and heir (one who will inherit)
  • aisle (walkway/path) and isle (island)
  • awl (pointied scriber) and all (everything)
  • allowed (permitted) and aloud (spoken)
  • bail (bucket handle) and bale (bundle of hay)

a Hyponym shares a type-of relationship with its hypernym. It is also a specific term used to designate a member of a class. For instance, oak is a hyponym of tree, and dog is a hyponym of animal. The opposite of a hyponym is a hypernym.

Example:

Hyponym of Colour:
  • red, blue, black, yellow, green, etc.
Hyponym of Flowers"
  • lily, rose, orchid, bourgainvilla, hibiscus, etc.
Hyponym of Furniture:
  • chair, table, desk, cupboard, etc.

Strong Verb and Week Verb

Weak Verb

Those weak verbs which add -d or -ed to form the past tense and past participle, and have no change of vowel, are so easily recognized as to need no special treatment. Some of them are already given as secondary forms of the strong verbs.
But the rest, which may be called irregular weak verbs, need some attention and explanation.

Irregular Weak Verb is divided into two classes:

(1) Those which retain the -d or -t in the past tense, with some change of form for the past tense and past participle.

(2) Those which end in -d or -t, and have lost the ending which formerly was added to this.

Strong Verb 

Common verbs like be, go, run and take, to name a few, that do not form the past tense by adding -ed to the stem. Instead, strong verbs change at least the vowel and sometimes the entire stem: was/were for be; went for go; ran for run; took for take; begin for start; build for make.

The key feature of a strong verb is (usually) that the simple past tense and the past participle do not end in -ed (or -t used in place of -ed). Often the stem vowel changes, too.

Examples of strong verbs (British English)
  • sing - sang - sung
  • break - broke - broken
  • run - ran - run
  • hit - hit - hit

Classes of English ...

Acrolect

the variety of speech that is closest to a standard prestige language, especially in an area in which a creole is spoken. For example, Standard Jamaican English is the acrolect where Jamaican Creole is spoken.


Mesolect 

It is term referring to a register or range of registers of spoken language whose character falls somewhere between the prestige of the acrolect and the informality of the basilect. Mesolectic speech, where it is distinguished from acrolectic speech, is often the most widely spoken form of a language, generally being used by lower and lower-middle classes. Within the context of creole lanuages, mesolects only appear in instances of a post-creole speech continuum wherein speakers code-switch between various mesolectal levels within the continuum depending on context.


Basilect

is a dialect of speech that has diverged considerably from an acrolect, or standard, "educated", variety of the language. A basilect and the acrolect in which it originated may eventually reach mutual unintelligibility.
